14 days jail for second-time drunken drive offense

Kakinada: A two-wheeler driver who was caught a second time driving in a drunken state was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment. Malladi Nageswerarao of Valasapakala village was produced before the court by the Kakinada town traffic police Inspector Chaitanya Krishna on Saturday and the fifth judicial first class magistrate Sarada Reddy has ordered him to undergo fourteen days jail term for involving drunken drive case for the second time.

Commenting on the incident, Kakinada district SP Ravindranatha Babu has said that the offenders had to undergo punishment either for violation of the motor vehicles act or driving the vehicle in a drunken state. He advised the vehicle drivers to strictly observe the traffic rules for ensuring the safety of other road users and also their own safety. The SP further said that intensive drive would continue against drunken driving as a part of the program to prevent road accidents.
