Date:

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin on Saturday said an announcement on the launch of the Rs 1,000 per month for women heads of families will be made in the State Budget 2023-24 to be presented in the State Assembly next month.
Mr Stalin made this announcement during his whirlwind campaign for DMK-Led Secular Progressive Alliance nominee and Congress Candidate EVKS Elangovan in the Erode East Assembly constituency where a bypoll will be held on February 27.
He said had the previous AIADMK regime, which ahd ruled for ten years from 2011 to 2021, had left the State’s financial situation in a good position, the DMK regime would have implemented it soon after coming to power in the May 2021 Assembly polls.
Stating that the AIADMK has left with a huge financial burden on the state, Mr Stalin the ruling DMK was setting right the financial situation and an announcement on launch the Rs 1,000 per month scheme for women family heads will be made in the budget next month.
The Rs 1,000 per month scheme was one of the key promises made by the DMK in its 2021 Election manifesto and the Opposition AIADMK had been alleging that the ruling DMK had not fulfilled its poll promises, including this scheme, besides NEET exemption. Stoutly denying the charges, the Chief Minister said almost 85 per cent of the poll promises were fulfilled so far and the remaining promises will be honoured within a year.
“Though the announcements were made with a vision of five years, we need not to wait so long and all promises will be implemented by this year,” he added. Listing out various welfare schemes launched by the DMK regime, after it came to power after a gap of 10 years, he appealed to the voters to
ensure the victory of Mr Elangovan by a huge margin. Meanwhile, the AIADMK has filed a complaint with the Returning Officer and Erode Commissioner K.Sivakumar that Mr Stalin’s announcement on Rs 1,000 monthly honorarium for women heads of families during campaign was a violation of the model code of conduct and demanded necessary action. Former AIADMK MLA I.S. Inbadurai has filed complaint stating that Mr.Stalin, while campaigning at Sampath Nagar, had made the announcement in violation of the Model Code of Conduct. He also alleged that the DMK has been involved in many violations during the byelection. The Chief Minister, who should have respected the law, has violated it,” he claimed.
The bypoll was necessitated following the death of Mr Elangovan’s son Thirumahan Everaa, who is also the great grandson of social reformer Periyar E.V.Ramasamy. The Congress, which had held the seat, nominated Mr Elangovan, who is also the former Union Minister and former TNCC President, for the
seat.
