Breast Implant surgeries in Hyderabad have nearly doubled in a decade, according to doctors at SLG Hospitals, a prominent multi super-specialty healthcare provider in the city, said on Monday.
Having small sized breasts is sometimes a cause for social stigma and low self confidence, especially among women who step out of their homes to work. This situation often arises due to social conditioning and patriarchy, prevalent in India.
It is these factors, coupled with other reasons, which led to doubling of breast implant surgeries in just a decade in Hyderabad, the hospital said in a release here.More and more women in their 20s and 30s are opting for breast implant surgeries, to enhance their physical appearance, the doctors observed.
Many young women believe, small-size breasts make them unattractive and feel less confident of their body and wear dresses which they would love to. It could also be a hindrance in some girls getting married.
Commenting on the issue, Dr. Sandhya BalaSubramanyam, Consultant Plastic Surgeon, SLG Hospitals said, “Young women who step out to work are at times worried about their body proportions and want to have bigger sized breasts to look attractive. There is a lot of information available on the internet to consider this procedure . Also social media influences them in a huge way, She said.
While there were a maximum of 10-15 breast enhancement surgeries per month happening in Hyderabad a decade ago, the number has increased to 25-30 now, Dr Sandhya said that with more and more women turning financially independent, this number could increase further in the times ahead.Dr. Sandhya recently performed transaxillary endoscopic (armpit approach) breast implant surgery on a 27-year-old IT professional, who underwent the procedure.

Breast enhancement or augmentation is a procedure where silicone implants are placed under the breast gland or chest muscles to increase the size of breast. Usually it is done through an incision below the breast fold. However the scar can be hidden by a transaxillary approach. The final result is a scarless naturally looking enhanced breasts, the Surgeon added.
