Hyderabad, Dec 6 : A team of Doctors led by Dr. Kishore Reddy, Consultant – Liver Transplant & Hepato Pancreato Biliary (HPB) Surgeon at Medicover Hospitals in Hitech City here have successfully removed more than 1000 stones of variable size ranging from 5 mm to 50 mm through a surgical procedure from a 39-year-old male patient’s liver, gallbladder and common bile duct.
A patient from West Bengal complained of recurrent attacks of abdominal pain and jaundice for three years and required frequent hospitalizations, the hospital said in a release here on Tuesday.
He was hospitalized in Kolkata and on evaluation; there were multiple gallbladder and bile duct stones of variable size ranging from the size of a peanut to that of a lemon.Due to this large number of stones, he developed cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct system). Endoscopic clearance was attempted twice in Kolkata with no success.
After many unsuccessful treatment attempts at the previous hospital, the patient was brought to Medicover Hospital at Hitech City. The patient’s entire biliary system, gallbladder, and liver are blocked with multiple stones ranging from 5mm to 50mm.
Due to the previous unsuccessful attempts of endoscopic clearance, Dr. Kishore Reddy and his team went ahead with the surgical procedure. The patient underwent cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder).
The main bile duct was opened, and approximately 250 gm of stones (exceeding 1000 in number) were laboriously removed by the surgeons using different techniques to extract bile duct stones from the proximal ducts and the main bile duct was joined with the intestine (Hepaticojejunostomy).
The operation was successful with no complications and after five days of surgery, he was discharged. The patient and his family thanked Dr. Kishore Reddy, and his team for providing the best treatment and making his life normal and healthy as before. The patient is now in good health and has returned to his regular daily activities.
