Jeyarani Kamaraj elected OGSSI President

Chennai, Dec 12: Dr.Jeyarani Kamaraj of the Chennai-based Aakash Fertility Centre and Hospital has been elected as the President of the Obstetric and Gynaecological Society of Southern India (OGSSI). She was elected during the 39 International Conference of OGSSI held in the city yesterday in which experts from across the world participated physically and also virtually and discussed about the latest technological advancements in child birth and maternal healthcare.
At the end of the conference, elections to elect the new office bearers for the year 2023 was held and Dr Jeyarani Kamaraj was elected as the OGSSI President.At a brief function, she was sworn in to the new post by current OGSSI President Dr R Premalatha and greeted her.She will assume charge as OGSSI President from January one, 2023. Dr Kundavi was elected Honorary Secretary of OGSSI, Dr Vijaya (VicePresident) and Dr Sampathkumari (VP South Zone). Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jeyarani said several new committees will be constituted to enhance the functioning of the OGSSI and serve the medicalfraternity. She also said a legal cell will be formed comprising experts to handle issues faced by the doctors and their hospital. Dr Vivek and Dr S.Vijiyalakshmi Seshadri and advisory from Kerala will be part of this legal cell.
Dr Jeyarani said awareness would be created on medical care by involving NGOs, Women Organisations, Advocates and Police, a press release from OGSSI said today.
She also announced the formation of various committees. Dr Sumathi and Dr Karpagam for creating awareness among the people, Dr.Vijiyalakshmi Gnansekharan and Dr Premalatha for the adolescent committee, Dr Meenakshi Sundaram and Dr Vanitha for Endoscopy, Dr Deepa, Dr Priya Kannappan and Dr Rajashri for Midlife, Dr Rajapriya and Dr Mohanapriya for providing counselling to issueless/infertility couples, Dr Dhanalaksmi and Dr Geethalakshmi for membership enrollment and Dr Vijaya, Dr Malaraj and Dr Kalaivani for consultations on Family Planning. Dr Vasanthamani and Dr Priya Kannappan for Liasioning committee.OGSSI is a non-profitable organization dedicated to maternal and child health, safe motherhood and family Welfare apart from teaching and training post graduates and junior doctors. Over the years, the society has been rendering commendable service in the field of maternal and child health and family welfare. The activities focus around better birth initiative, contraception, cancer screening and other socially oriented obstetrics and Gynaecological problems. For the past few years, the society has been recognized as a nodal body for coordinating the safe mother initiative with other societies in Tamil Nadu.
