Hyderabad, Jan 19 : Appealing to the people to utilize the opportunity of free eye screening test, provided by the state government and get themselves screened at Kanti Velugu centre, Telangana Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari on Thursday stated that the Kanti Velugu programme, the brainchild of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was inaugurated by the latter at Khammam on Wednesday.
The eye screening camps are being conducted by 1500 teams with the involvement of around 15000 staff across the state, Shanti Kumari told reporters after visiting Kanti Velugu centre at AV College here and interacted with the patients.She also handed over spectacles to a patient after the completion of the eye screening test at the centre.The CS stated that the state achieved an outstanding record during the first phase of Kanti Velugu programme in the year 2018 by conducting around 1.57 crore eye screening tests and distributing around 45 lakh spectacles.
Over the next 100 working days, arrangements are being made to exceed the previous record during the second phase this year, she said.
Steps are being taken to provide quality service to the patient in a record time and minimise the waiting time for the patient. The waiting time for longer vision spectacles has also been reduced, the CS added.
She noted that during the first phase many elderly people including women availed this facility.Secretary Health and Family Welfare S A M Rizvi, GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, Commissioner health and family welfare Sweta Mohanty and other officials were present.
