BBMP, BDA, Govt properties must be utilised for welfare of citizens: Bommai

Date:

Bengaluru, Nov 21: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has underscored the importance of utilising government as well Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) properties must be utilised for the welfare of citizens.
Speaking after performing a Bhoomi Puja for the construction of a commercial complex by Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd (KRIDL) in Bommanahalli assembly constituency on Monday, he said the public properties like government offices and complexes and such other assets should not to be reserved for commercial activities but utilised for the welfare of citizens as all these assets are created through tax-payers money. Pointing out that the State Capital of Bengaluru was developing in all four directions, he said the State Government was appointing a large number of staff, engineers and other senior officials. Most of the government offices and senior officials are forced to work from the headquarters of BBMP or BDA due to lack of space and often by renting out private buildings, which costs large sums of the money.
The State Government has taken steps to construct buildings not only in Bengaluru but growing cities like Mangaluru and Vijayapur through the KRIDL and this should be done in all district headquarters, the Chief Minister said.
Bommai said the 9-storyied commercial complex being built in the Bommanahalli assembly constituency at a cost of Rs 91 crore will solve the problems of lack of space for government buildings in the area. If these buildings are constructed through private sector collaboration, the government will not benefit much and therefore government- owned agencies like KRIDL are entrusted with the work, he said. The Chief Minister said the government has approved 12 high density cities at accost of Rs 280 crore around Bengaluru which has a population of 1.30 crore with over 5000 new vehicles entering the streets daily on an average. The State Government is spending Rs 8,000 crore for the infrastructure development of Bengaluru and suburban areas, he said. KRIDL Chairman M Rudresh, MLA Satish Reddy, Panchayat Raj Department Additional Chief Secretary Uma Mahadevan and others participated.
