Bengaluru : The BBMP garbage trucks which are always in bad news by involving in accidents is now running on CNG and fighting the pollution in the city, said Bommanhalli MLA Satish Reddy.
Flagging off the CNG fitted trucks at Mylasandra Mr. Reddy said that already Bengaluru is also one of the top polluted cities like National capital Delhi. In the wake of increasing pollution level and seeing several media reports on how Bengaluru is ranking in pollution index Mr. Reddy thought that the pollution must be curbed. Running garbage trucks on CNG fuel helps reduce pollution.
Fitting CNG fuel to garbage trucks is first of its initiative in the state. All the BBMP garbage trucks which are being run on diesel will be converted to CNG in the days to come. By adopting to this technology diesel can be save.
Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has extended its support to the project and efforts are afoot convert waste to gas. Trucks will be run on the gas produced from the waste, he said.
It is a pleasure to know that Bommanahalli is the first in the state to adapt to new technology to run the garbage trucks and it helps hight pollution, Dr. Shanti, member of HSR Citizen Forum.
Since garbage trucks are Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV) at least Rs. Four lakhs are required to convert to CNG engines. The GAIL has announced a coupon of Rs. 25,000 for those customers who register in November. There has been a demand to provide coupon or incentive of Rs. 50,000 to garbage trucks to convert to CNG engine from Diesel engine and the proposal is being discussed at the higher level, she added.
New bio CNG unit is being constructed at the HSR layout and facility will be provided to fill CNG fuel to all the garbage trucks.BJP leader Hongasandra Srinivas Reddy, Roopesh Reddy, former BBMP deputy mayor Mohan Raj, former corporator Jelly Ramesh.
