BJP MP in Rajya Sabha Lahar Singh Siroya on Thursday asked senior leaders in Karnataka to take a cue from Gujarat party leaders and make way for young leaders in the state by not contesting the next assembly elections.
“What has happened in Gujarat should serve as a model in Karnataka too. Former Gujarat CM @vijayrupanibjp, former Dy. CM @Nitinbhai_Patel, as well as former ministers, @imBhupendrasinh and @PradipsinhGuj, have decided not to contest the assembly polls,” he said in a series of tweets.
This tweet comes on the eve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bengaluru.
The PM will inaugurate several infrastructure projects including opening the Terminal 2 of the Kempegowda International Airport in the outskirts of the city.
“This is a commendable move to strengthen democracy by allowing a smooth generational change. Karnataka assembly polls will be held in a few months from now. Senior leaders in the state should make way for younger people in the larger interest of the state and nation,” he added.
Yesterday, four senior leaders of the BJP in Gujarat, including former chief minister Vijay Rupani announced that they will not contest in the upcoming election.
The three other leaders include former deputy chief minister Nitin Patel, senior MLAs Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and Pradipsinh Jadeja, all were ministers in Vijay Rupani’s cabinet.
