Cong trying to defame brand Bengaluru: BJP MP Surya

Date:

Bengaluru: After Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Thursday blamed Congress party for the inundation of some parts of the city due to its land-grabbing leaders.

“The Opposition and some vested interests today are trying to defame ‘Brand Bengaluru’ for their petty political gains. The IT parks belong to whom? Who encroached those lakes? Who encroached the rajakaluves? The Congress party and its land-grabbing leaders must answer these questions and first introspect before lecturing the BJP on any of these issues. Our chief minister has been relentlessly working,” he told reporters here.Further talking about the encroachments, Surya said Bommai has issued a strict direction in this regard and violators must be made accountable even if they belonged to the BJP. “Whoever has done an inch of encroachment – whether it is by the BJP, the Congress or the JDS. Whoever it is. Those encroachments must be cleared and the chief minister has issued a strict direction to clear all these encroachments,” he said.

Surya also clarified that only one zone of the city was inundated, but the Congress has been portraying it as though the entire city has been inundated through propaganda. “Bengaluru is a big city. The inundation had taken place in one zone, namely Bellandur. And from the past 3 to 4 days the government and the chief minister have relentlessly worked and solved the issue,” he argued.Surya, however, said the situation in his South Bengaluru Lok Sabha constituency is 95 percent normal.

He also lambasted the Congress for politicising the issue as the rainfall in the city was not normal, but was the highest in the last 100 years.Earlier CM Bommai had accused previous Congress governments of misrule, blaming them for granting illegal constructions on lakes, storm water drains and their buffer zones.
