Bengaluru, July 11 (UNI) Two security guards of an apartment complex here have been arrested on the charges of killing a drunk 27-year-old youth from Odisha after mistaking him for a thief, police said on Monday. The arrested persons have been identified as Shyamnath Ray (24) and Ajith Mura (24).
The deceased person, Abinash Pathi, was a bank employee from Odisha. According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of July 5.
According to HAL police, Abhinash Pathi, who worked at a bank in Chhattisgarh, had come to Bengaluru for training. On July 4 night, he had partied with his friends in Marathahalli in Bengaluru. Later, he started towards his friend’s place to stay. He had stored the address of his friend’s place on his mobile and asked the public the way to reach the destination.
However, the mobile got switched off. At about 2 a.m., instead of reaching his friend’s residence, Abhinash Pathi entered the Vamshi Citadel Apartment located in Marathahalli after jumping the gate, police said. The accused security guards on duty, Shyamnath Ray and Ajith Mura questioned him about his identity and his place of stay. Since Pathi was drunk, he could not answer their questions properly. The security guards suspected him to be a thief and hit his head with an iron rod, police explained. Abhinash Pathi suffered a severe head injury, collapsed on the spot, and died of profuse bleeding. Later, a case was lodged with the HAL police station and the police arrested the accused persons. Further investigation is on.
