K’taka BJP MLA threatens woman

Date:

Bengaluru: Karnataka BJP MLA Arvind Limbavali has again landed in trouble after a video of him threatening to boot a woman Congress worker into prison has gone viral on social media. The video depicts Limbavali purportedly snatching the petition papers carried by Ruth Sagar Mary and shouting at the Congress worker, asking her to clear the encroachment she allegedly made on land where she built her property in 1971.

Mary had approached Limbavali in the wake of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s plans to demolish her property. “Whatever may be the problem, the MLA could have behaved properly with a woman in a public place,” she told reporters here. In his defense, Limbavali said he had only asked the woman to clear off the encroachments.

Meanwhile, a revenue department official has lodged a complaint with police in Whitefield against Mary for allegedly obstructing him from executing his duties. The ugly incident has been picked up by Congress leaders, who condemned Limbavali’s unruly conduct and showing scant respect towards a woman in public. Appealing to the State Women’s Commission to take cognizance of the incident, senior Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao said Limbavali should not have spoken to a woman in an uncivilized manner.

“The MLA has hurled expletives on her and threatened to imprison her. Who is he to talk about it? These BJP leaders are showcasing their arrogant behavior,” he said. In a tit-for-tat, Karnataka Congress media in-charge Priyank Kharge asked where the BJP leaders were when they questioned his “sex for government jobs” comment.

“Is MLA Limbavali a rowdy? He does not have the patience to receive petitions and listen to woes,” he said.
