Lions International is conducting a massive e-waste collection program across erstwhile Warangal district till February 13, said Lions District Governor Kanna Parashuramulu. Launching the program here on Tuesday, the governor said that useless electronic items such as cell phones, computers, TVs, electric cookers, which have become an inseparable part of daily life, are considered e-waste. “Our country is the 3rd largest country that generates this waste, and Lions International has taken up a program to collect and recycle it properly,” he added. Participating as the chief guest, former Vice Chancellor of Kakatiya and Palamur Universities, Prof Vangala Gopal Reddy said, “There are more than 50 million tons of electronic waste in the world and electronic waste is spreading faster than all other wastes and causing a threat to the environment. Use of electronic goods in every house is increasing and it is being destroyed in the form of garbage after use and it is the responsibility of everyone to prevent this.” Speaking on the occasion, Lions Warangal District E-Waste Coordinator Katanguru Ramgopal Reddy said in the program that the residence of Sub-District Governor Kunduru Venkat Reddy at Kishanpura in Hanamkonda, Lions Bhavan, Hanmakonda. Shree Ramanuja Concept School, Vishmacharla, Dr.B.L. N. Care Hospital, Vasavi Colony, Warangal. Birla Open Minds International School, Warangal, Lions Bhavan, Thorur. Janagama Abad Lions Bhawan had been set up as collection centers. Officials of Lions Club of Hanmakonda Tricity, Hanmakonda Jhansi were congratulated for collecting the e-waste. Sub District Governors Nadipelli Venkateshwar Rao, Kunduru Venkat Reddy, former District Governors and Lions officials participated in the program.
