LP becomes well marked, TN to get heavy rains on Dec 8, 9, NDRF teams deployed

Chennai, Dec 6: The Low Pressure area over the Bay has become well marked today and it would concentrate into a depression and thereafter as a Cyclonic Storm, bringing in heavy rain to extremely heavy rainfall over North coasts Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on December eight.
Met office said the Low Pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman sea now lies as a Well Marked Low Pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and it will concentrate into a Depression and intensify as a Cyclonic Storm and reach North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra coasts on December eight morning.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to mid tropospheric levels. It is likely to move westnorthwards and concentrate into a Depression over
Southeast Bay of Bengal today evening. Thereafter it is likely to continue to move west-northwards, intensify further gradually into a Cyclonic Storm and reach Southwest Bay of Bengal near North Tamil Nadu-Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra pradesh coasts by the morning of December eight.
Under its influence enhanced rainfall activity with rainfall at a few places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely to commence over North coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal from the midnight of tomorrow.
It is likely to increase with rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on December eight, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu on December nine and isolated heavy rainfall over interior Tamil Nadu on December 10. The sea condition will be rough and fishermen were advised not to venture into Southeast Bay of Bengal, Southwest Bay of Bengal, along and off Sri Lanka coast, and along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts for the next four days.
Met office has issued red alert for north Tamil Nadu coasts on December eight. Meanwhile, the State Disaster Management department, in a circular all the district collectors and the Chennai Corporation Commissioner to adhere to Standard Operating procedures for handling disasters,
gear up the entire district machinery and take up adequate preparedness measures to tackle any exigency due to the formation of Low Pressure area and heavy, very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall activity. It said the Met office has issued heavy, very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall warning to several districts.
Tomorrow, heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Pudukottai districts.
On December eight, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at in 13 districts, including Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Villuppuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam and extremely heavy rain is also likely to occur at one or two places. The circular said heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places oer Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruchirapalli, Sivaganga,
Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram districts on December eight. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Villuppuram, Tiruvannamalai, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem districts on December nine.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai,riyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirapalli, Namakkal, Karur and
Erode districts on that day. In a wake of heavy rainfall on December 8, six teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Tamil Nadu. The NDRF teams are deployed in Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur,
Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Chennai. “In view of the IMD alert with respect to Low pressure has formed over South Andaman Sea. It is likely to move West-northwest wards and concentrate into a Depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal, therefore six teams from NDRF Arakkonam are detailed to the following districts of Tamil Nadu as requested by the Director of Disaster Management Govt. of Tamil Nadu,” a statement from NDRF said on Tuesday.All the NDRF teams are self-contained and equipped with Flood Rescue equipment, Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue equipment, appropriate communication equipment and suitable personal protective equipment. “Our 24×7 control room in Arakkonam is closely monitoring the situation.
round the clock and all efforts are being made in close collaboration with Tamil Nadu state administration,” it said.
