Hyderabad: The ‘Kanti Velugu’ program in Telangana has successfully provided eye tests to over 1 crore people across the state. The program, aimed at achieving a blindness-free Telangana, has identified and provided free spectacles and medicines to 17 lakh 20 thousand 200 visually impaired people. In addition to this, reading glasses were distributed to the identified beneficiaries while 13 lakh 11 thousand 858 people were identified for prescription glasses. The program also diagnosed 78,67,170 people without any eye problems.
The State Government has issued instructions to conduct the scheme for 100 days from January 19 to June 15. To make the program successful in the district, district collectors, medical and health officials, and officials of various departments planned and implemented the camps in advance. The Kanti Velugu program is being vigorously implemented throughout the state with advance plans, continuous monitoring, daily reviews, analysis, video conference and meetings, correcting the deficiencies from time to time.
Moreover, the program has shown that myopia is more common among the people who visited the camps. Many people over the age of 40 were visiting camps with nearsightedness, and reading glasses were provided to them immediately. Vitamin A, D, and B complex tablets were also being distributed to many people who came with eye problems.
Apart from Kanti Velugu, the government has also launched Arogya Mahila Kendras across the state for women’s health. Over 10,000 women have been given 8 types of medical tests through 100 women’s health centers. These medical tests include basic diagnostic, cancer screening, micronutrient deficiencies, urinary tract infections, PID, PCOS, family planning, menstrual problems, menopause management, sexually transmitted diseases, and body weight issues. The clinics also conduct cancer screening tests, primary tests for suspects and those with symptoms, and refer for treatment in case of diagnosis.
