Rahul, Sonia should clarify stand on terrorism: Bommai

Date:

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday asked clarity from Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul and Sonia Gandhi whether they are in favour of terrorists, who create unrest in the country or in favour of the nation saving patriots.
Reacting to KPCC President DK Shivakumar’s statement on the Mangaluru blast case, Bommai told reporters that it was inappropriate for senior leaders to make statements that affects the morale of the police and the nation.
“When terrorists are caught along with evidence, questioning the ongoing investigation is like extending support to terrorist organisations. The blast took place when a cooker carried by the suspect exploded. It was meant for carrying out terrorist acts in Mangaluru. The suspect had concealed his identity, but the police found that he was arrested in two to three cases previously. He also had links outside the country,” he told reporters here.
Bommai said it is not correct on the part of Shivakumar to term the Mangaluru blast as an ‘accident’ and trying to hush it up.
“It is the habit of the Congress to talk lightly about terrorist-related activities and support terrorists even after they were hanged. This is an election ploy to appease them. It is an old trick to woo minority voters. People are now awake and such tricks does not work anymore,” he said.
Asked about Shivakumar’s allegations over Chilume voters scam, Bommai said the Congress leader should know about the company because it was during the Congress rule in 2017 that the orders were issued to it. The current BJP government has ordered a probe and few people have been arrested, he said.
