Hyderabad, Dec 7 : Commenting on the exit polls forecasting BJP victories in Gujarat and Haryana, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday said his state will also demonstrate a similar positive outcome for the BJP.
He said a pro-incumbency vote for the BJP for the seventh time in Gujarat showed the strong faith people have in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and mechanism of state governance.“Karnataka will have a BJP government again next year,” he told reporters here. The election commission is all set to count votes in both the states and declare results on Thursday. The BJP is expected to focus more on Karnataka, for it is the only state in South India it governs and anti-incumbency has been the trend since late 1980s.
Bommai said people don’t buy false narratives and politically-motivated propaganda as was shown in the exit polls, which declared BJP as winners in Himachala and Gujarat polls. “People support good governance and development work,” he added. The ruling BJP has been in poll mode ever since it changed the guard in the state. The party is holding Jana Sankalp Yatras to showcase Labharties (government beneficiaries), who have become a new demographic beyond caste, gender, urban and rural metrics, having a huge impact on election results.
Bommai however denied Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray’s allegations that he had been making statements on border disputes keeping the upcoming election in mind. He said it was Maharashtra leaders who were stoking trouble, though people on either side were living in perfect harmony.
