Puttaparthi (Andhra Pradesh), Dec 22: With the Divine Blessings of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust (SSSCT) inaugurated the state-of-the-art Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine worth Rs 60 lakh at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS) in Prasanthigram here on Thursday.
The machine was inaugurated by SSSCT Managing Trustee RJ Rathnakar in the presence of Dr Gurumurthy (Director, SSSIHMS) and Dr Anuj Sharma (Senior Consultant & Head, Department of Ophthalmology), the Trust said in a release here.
Optical Coherence Tomography is a non-invasive imaging method that uses reflected light to create pictures of the back of your eye. It can be used to diagnose and manage diseases like diabetes-related retinopathy and glaucoma.
Manufactured by Carl Zeiss, the OCT machine has many advanced features like Enhanced Depth Imagine (EDI) through which the machine can analyse beyond the layers of the retina.
The system comes with a Fast Track feature which helps reduce the eye motion artefacts, thereby improving the accuracy of the diagnosis.
Speaking on the occasion, Rathnakar urged SSSIHMS staff to provide the best treatment to the patients, especially to the poor who cannot afford these facilities and the Trust will continue to enhance and upgrade the services at Sai Baba’s Institutions.
