Stalin asks non-BJP ruled States to pass resolution on time limit for governors to clear bills

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday assured the State Assembly that his government was making efforts to fulfill the 10.5% reservation for Vanniyars. Replying to a Special Calling Attention motion given notice of by PMK Floor Leader G.K.Mani and others on the issue, he said the 10.5% quota was brought in as a matter of urgency on the day the election date was to be announced.
“That is why the ban was imposed in court. We have gone up to the Supreme and a Commission has also been set up and it was given extension. Based on its recommendations and on the basis of the Apex Court verdict, the DMK government will fulfill the 10 per cent quota for Vanniyars.“Once the Supreme Court verdict comes, we will effectively implement the reservation”, he said. He also said everyone knew that regardless of what the previous AIADMK government brought it, we also tried to implement it,” he added. Drawing the goverment’s attention, Mr Mani said if the deadline of the commission is extended by six months, students will lose their chance for admission in May, saying it would have been suffice if the Commission had been given one month extension instead of six months. Responding to it, Mr Stalin said only on the request of by the Commission it has been granted an extension of six months.
