Chennai: The Chennai-based Munoth Industries Limited Wednesday announced that it has set up a state-of-the-art lithium cell manufacturing facility at an outlay of Rs 165 crores in electronics manufacturing Cluster-2, Tirupati.
This lithium cell facility, which will employ over 250 people, is the first of its kind in India developed and operated by an Indian company. The company will commence the pre-production run of the complete lithium cell manufacturing line on September 16 to be initiated by the Uni minister of state for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandra Sekhar in Tirupati. The commercial production and formal opening of the factory are slated for the middle of next month, Jaswant Munoth, Vice Chairman, and Vikas Munoth, Managing Director of the company told reporters here today. They said the factory is located in a 30-acre area with a built-up area of 15,000 sqm. Stating that at present In dia imports its complete requirements of lithium on cells primarily from China, South Kor ea, Vietnam, and Hong Kong, they said the demand for lithium batteries in non-automotive applications is forecasted to increase from 0.3 GWhto12GWhby2030 driven by telecom towers, data centers, grid-scale Ren enables energy (RE)integration and rooftop solar.
