Telangana CM launches Eightnew medical colleges in state

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday unveiled a new chapter in the field of medical education by launching eight new medical colleges at one go in the state through virtual mode from Pragathi Bhavan here. With an aim to establish one government medical college in each of the 33 districts in the state, the state government has set up eight new colleges and classes for the first batch of MBBS students began from today. With this, the number of government medical colleges in the state has risen to 17.
Speaking on the occasion, KCR said it is a golden chapter in the history of Telangana and an unforgettable day today as eight medical colleges was launched on a single day including in the tribal dominated Mahabubabad and in remote areas like Wanaparthy. In the past, 4 medical colleges – Mahabubnagar, Siddipet, Nalgonda and Suryapet were launched and running them successfully, he said today, 8 more new medical colleges in Sangareddy, Mahabubabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Wanaparthy, Kothagudem, Nagarkurnool and Ramagundam, started in the state. It was required to start new medical colleges in another 17 districts, the Chief Minister said the state cabinet already gave its approval in principle to take up the construction of new medical colleges.

Earlier, the total number of MBBS seats available in Government medical colleges were 850 and today, the number has increased to 2,790, he said it is a pleasure that number of MBBS seats increased almost 4 times and Telangana Children are getting seats.

Similarly, PG and Super specialty seats also increased significantly, Rao said earlier, there are only 531 PG seats and now 1,180 PG seats are made available and also Super specialty seats was increased from 70 to 152 seats.
