Dharna of NTPC contract workers tense

The South India Times Jangaon: A dharna program by contract workers working at National Thermal Power Corporation Ramagunda m NTPC power plant for wage revision in front of the plant’s labor gate on Monday led to tension.

Hundreds of contract workers staged a dharna for hours. An altercation broke out between the protesters and the CISF security personnel in front of the Labor Gate. There was a scuffle between the two sides.

The contract labor unions held a special meeting with the workers demanding pro- motion of senior contract workers as well as enforcement of inheritance rights. Later, CISF personnel stopped the workers as they rushed toward the gate. In this sequence, a scuffle took place between the two groups which finally led to the lathi charge.

About 60 contract workers were injured in the lathi charge incident. They have been taken to the hospital and are being treated. Ramagundam MLA Korukanti Chander visited the injured contract workers. MLA Korukanti Chan der demanded that cases be registered against CISF security- ty personnel. strongly condemned the actions of NTPC.

MLA Chander explained that she would take the matter of CISF police’s lathi- charge on the contract workers who were protesting for their rights to the notice of the Chief Minister of the state, KCR.
