Flood: Telangana CS speaks to Army officials for assistance

HYDERABAD, JULY 15 Acting on the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Telangana Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar on Friday spoke to the Army officials and re- quested them to provide assistance in the flood affected Bhadradri district.
Accordingly, 101 men of whom 68 were from the Infantry, 10 Medical professionals, and 23 Engineers have left for the flood ravaged Bhadradri district, an official release here said. The above troops will be ca- capable of operating as five
independent teams.

The Tourism department has dispatched four special boats along with men to Bhadradri district to assist in rescue and relief operations. The fire department has also dispatched seven boats along with 210 life jackets. The state government has also deputed Singareni Collieries Managing Director N Sridhar as a special officer to monitor the relief operations in the district. The infrastructure available with the Singareni Collieries will be pressed into service at Bhadrachalam for flood relief operations, the release said.

The Chief Secretary reviewed the flood situation and asked the officials to ensure that there is no loss of life due to the floods. Kumar is continuously monitoring the situation on an hourly basis, the release added. Meanwhile, the flood situation in river Godavari at Bhadrachalam has been getting worsened with continuous inflows from upstream projects and the water level reached 68.30 feet at 10 am with a discharge of 22.76 lakh cusec today. With the water level in the Godavari expected to increase further, the district administration and NDRF teams were evacuating people living in the low-lying areas in Burgam- pad Mandal and Bhadrachalam town and sending them to rehabilitation centers.

The flood water inundated many colonies near Godavari Karakatta and the Bhadradri Temple temple area. Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar wading through knee-deep water visited AMC Colony, Subhash Nagar, Shanti Nagar, and other areas urging the residents to move to rehabilitation Centres immediately.
