Hyderabad, July 25 (UNI): The people of the Sikh community have urged the Telangana government to extend all welfare schemes and other benefits to them on par with other minorities in the State. A group of noted Sikh community people led by retired IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur called on Social Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar at his chamber here on Monday and submitted a memorandum to him, seeking to address their list of demands.
In a memorandum, they said that majority of the people belonging to the Sikh community were living in poverty and were not getting benefits from all welfare schemes of the State government on par with other minority communities in Telangana. They also stated that there are 44 Gurudwaras in Telangana and the majority of them are facing a shortage of funds to run the administrative operations.
The government should extend its financial assistance to all Gurudwaras and announce a monthly honorarium of Rs.7500 to Grandhi (priest) and Ragis ( Keertan singer) working in the Gurudwaras, they said.
