The 100th Annual Bonalu under the auspices of the Subjimandi `Nataraj Nagar’ Joint Temples

Hyderabad, 24 July 2022: Bonalu has been offered to the ancient temples of Sri Nallapochamma and Sri Mahankali Devi Ammavarla since 1922 and Bonalu has been offered to Ammavarlu continuously from then till today. The nearby 13 bases form a committee and every year on the last Sunday of the month of Ashaadham, it is customary to offer mass bonuses to the goddess.

Sri Gandla Niranjan Babu, President of the Festival Committee, said that the 100th Annual Bonalu Festival is being celebrated under the auspices of the Sri Nallapochamma and Sri Mahankali Devi Mandir Joint Temples in Sabjimandi on the 19th of this month to mark the Bonalu festival. On Sunday the 24th, women will leave the Sri Mahankali Temple in Sabzimandi in masses and offer bonalu at the Sri Nallapochamma Temple in Natarajan Nagar. On this occasion, he said, the procession would be a festivity as women, children and youths would enthusiastically follow the procession amidst the bustle of folk artists’ dances, acrobatics, and musical instruments.

He said all arrangements have been made to avoid any inconvenience to the devotees, as well as the procession, would be coordinated by the government departments and police departments. Shri Dortula Srinivas, General Secretary of the Festival Committee, urged the people to worship Goddess with devotion and get Goddess’ grace. Among those invited to the 100th Annual Bonalu Festival were Vice Presidents Pyata Nanda Kishore, Treasurer Kudumula Rakesh, Gangaputra Sangam President, Sri Gudumani Ashok Kumar, and Committee Advisors Katta Rajaya, Gudaboyana Siva Ratnam, Jalagala Venu, Burra Venukumar, Katta Shivaraj, Katta Nursing Rao and Aushetti Sambashiva Rao.
