TS Minister launches second phase of Jammi plantation

Hyderabad: Telangana Forest and Environment Minister Indrakaran Reddy On Wednesday for- mally inaugurated the second phase Jammi plantation at Kothaguda Botanical Gardens Urban Forest Park. MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, Forest Corporation Chairman Onteru Pratap Reddy and Government Advisor Ramanachari and MP Joginpally Santosh Kumar were present on the occasion.

On the occasion of Dussehra festival, the Forest Departments in coordination with Green India Challenge have prepared proposals to plant 1.25 lakh Jammi saplings in all villages and temples this year.

A poster related to this program was also released on this occasion. Jammi Chetti, the most prestigious tree since the Vedic period and worshipped by everyone, has been recognized as the state tree of Telangana and the Indian Roller bird as the state bird by the state government. Santhosh Kumar disclosed that Green India has taken up the slogan of Vooru Vooruko Jammi Chettu (jammi Chettu in every village) Gudi Gudi Ke Jammi Chettu ( Jammi in every Temple) to preserve the extincting jammi due to various reasons. The MP thanked the Forest and Revenue Departments for their support in this program.

In Telangana it is customary to worship the Jammi tree on the auspicious Dussehra festival. It is also customary to exchange Jammi leaves with relatives and wish them good luck.
In view of these priorities, Minister Indrakaran Reddy welcomed MP Santosh Kum ar’s call to take up Jammi in every Village and Temple in the state on the eve of the upcoming Dussehra Navratri celebrations.

The State Endowment department has also taken up the initiative of planting and growing jammi trees in all the temples across the state. Prabhakar Reddy said that he is happy that a young MP J Santosh Kumar, is giving priority to culture as well as the environment. Pratap Reddy said that a campaign on Jammi plantation in every village and Temple will be taken up extensively among people.

Ramanachari said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had declared Jammi Chettu as the state tree soon after Telangana got statehood status. He congratulated Santosh Kumar for coming up with a great idea of Jammi, which has been part of daily lives since Vedic times, a plantation in every village temple and school.

On the eve of Vajrotsava celebrations, MP Santhosh Kumar along with Minister Indrakaran Reddy unveiled the Run for Peace program poster and T-shirts, conducted by the Walkers Association.
