Women participation increased in multiple ways in LSGs after 73rd CAA enactment: Musthafa

Hyderabad: AK Musthafa, President of Perinthalmanna Block Panchayat, Malappuram District of Kerala, said after the enactment of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, today women’s participation increased in multiple ways as key policymakers in Local Self-Government Institutions (LSGs), especially in Kerala and deliver- ing with abundant output and achievements in comparison with male elected representatives of PRIs.

However, in many states, women are facing a lot of challenges and problems for their empowerment and this is the right occasion to respond to all the women community for getting their legitimate share by approaching the state governments for speedy and urgent reforms in this arena, said Mr. Musthafa while delivering the Valedictory address at the 2-day ICSSR sponsored Nation al Seminar on ‘Village@75 : Role of Villages in Nation Building: Achievements, Challenges and Solutions’, organized by the Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research of India (AGRA SRI), as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav here on Saturday evening,

In 75 Years of Independent India, the need of the hour is to increase the rural women’s participation in sustainable development in villages, said the Chief Guest Nelly Joey Rodrigu es, President, Goa State Panchayati Mahila Shakti Abhiyan, Goa at the Valedictory Session She said the South Goa District Panch ayat has implemented many innovative schemes and programs for the welfare of women particularly Self-Help Groups with the support and guidance of Gram Panchayats and recognized the best role model to many other states in India. At the end of the day, the National Seminar formulated 9 recommendations for the prosperous and growth of Villages as foundations and pillars of nation-building, include to take urgent and required measures and actions by the Government of India and all State Governments in reducing the gender gap index of India from 135 to reasonable position, as compared with Global Gender Gap Index; utilize the services and expertise of the Panchayati Raj experts in drafting the Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs) by the Gram Panchayats.
