Chennai, Dec 24 : Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Ravi, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin and leaders of various political parties today extended their Christmas greetings to the Christian community. In his message, the Governor said “I extend my warmest, Christmas greetings and best wishes to the people of Tamil Nadu especially our Christian brothers and sisters.” “Christmas celebrates the birth of Lord Jesus Christ who blessed the earth with love and compassion for peace and harmony. His message of forgiveness is the precious gift for the humanity and it underscores that we are one family and one future”, he said, according to a Raj Bhavan communique.
“May the Christmas bring health, happiness and harmony to all of us”, the Governor said and urged the people to celebrate the occasion by observing COVID protocols in view of rising cases in various countries. “In view of rising cases of COVID 19 pandemic in various countries, I urge you to celebrate Christmas observing Covid protocols”, the Governor said. In his greetings, Stalin expressed his best wishes to all the Christians to celebrate it with joy and happiness as it is a festival of human values of equality, brotherhood, equality, exchange of love and helping the poor. Jesus had the high spirit to forgive those who crucified him. “Love others as you love yourself,” “Forgive and you will be forgiven,” and “Blessed are those who work for peace,” are the teachings of Jesus given thousands of years ago and are applicable to all times and lands. Following such high standards, the our government continues to implement various programs for the welfare of the Christians in Tamil Nadu, including setting up of the Minority Welfare Commission in 1989, the Minority Economic Development Corporation in 1999, and the Minority Welfare Movement wasestablished by the then Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi in 2007, Stalin said. “By following his path, our Dravidian Model government has allocated fundsto start an additional Christian Aid Society in the districts of Karur, Madurai and Theni.
He also said his government has increased the grant for undertaking the pilgrimage to Jerusalem “Our all-embracing Dravidian model government is committed to uplifting the socio-economic-educational status of the Christian people and protecting their rights”, he added. “Let the virtues of Jesus guide us to create a world of equality where peace and love prevail”, Stalin said. In his message, Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly and AIADMK Interim General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami greeted the Christians on the occasion of Christmas, which was celebrated to mark the birth ofJesus Christ. “On the occasion of Christmas, I wish the people to embrace love, humbleness and simplicity that was taught by him to espouse brotherhood to live in social harmony,” he said in a statement. He also pointed out that the AIADMK regime under his leadership had launched several schemes for welfare of the community. Expelled AIADMK leader O.Panneerselvaam, PMK Founder Dr.S.Ramadoss, PMK President and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, AMMK Leader TTV Dhinakaran, TMC leader G.K.Vasan and leaders of various political parties also greeted the Christians on the occasion of Christmas.
