Chennai, Dec 11:Tamil Nadu Governor R.N.Rai today led the state in paying rich tributes to revolutionary Tamil poet Subramaniya Bharathi and
recalled his contributions to the Nation building. At a function held at the Raj Bahvan to mark 141st birth anniversary, which was observed as Bharatiya BhashaDiwas (Indian Languages Day), the Governor in his presidential address, recalled the great Nationalist poet and social reformer Subramania Bharathiar and his immense contributions in the Nation building. He not only dreamt for India’s freedom, but also for a strong capable and self-
reliant India.
He said that the richness of a language is a reflection of higher evolution of that civilizational. “A language emerges and evolves as needed by the people for expression. “ He underscored oneness of Indian language and how it played vital role in integrating people with diversity. Appreciating the Indian literature including poetries, scripts, epics are the hearts and minds of people and more powerful than any other in the world as well, he said Indian languages promote and disseminate spiritual and intellectual wealth than any other languages.
The ancient languages of Tamil and Sanskrit, rich in heritage, have shared greatly each other and enriched all other Indian languages. It is a beauty of
Indian languages that each languages are connected with each other, he addedd The Governor hailed contributions of the poets that strengthened the unity
of Bharat with their great work. Citing Bharatiyar’s lines, ‘seppu mozhi pathinettu udaiyal chinthanai ondru udaiyal’ where he said, Mother India speaks 18 languages but she has one thinking, the Governor pointed out that though the languages are different the very core reflects the soul of Bharat.
He elaborated how the colonizers made attempts to divide this great Nation and how the language was misused by the divisive politics to weaken the
unity of the Nation. He emphasised on the need people’s participation particularly the youth to fulfill the dreams of the great leaders to make India self-reliant and capable. He said youth should learn new languages. The celebrations of Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas across the country is providing a great opportunity to youth and encouraging them to learn each other languages and to take pride on our Indian languages.
The Governor said Bharatiya Bhasha Diwas is a befitting moment to commemorate and honour the birthday of Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyaar with the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He reminded that Nation is marching on the path of Amrit Kaal of the next 25 years with clear mission and self-confidence to reach its destination of Vishwa Guru. By the incredible achievements with immense involvement and contributions of people and youth who are the drivers of progressive Nation, India has been emerging with lot of expectations and trust imposed upon to provide sustainable solutions to various global challenges. India’s recent taking over of G20 Presidency and willingness to take leadership and its selfless services for ensuring peace, harmony and progressive world as India’s traditions have always emphasised on one family, one world and one future.
The Governor urged the students and youth to commit themselves togrow self to ensure growth of society thereby growth of Nation. They should keep in mind always thoughts about Nation’s development and not to be intimidated by setbacks, in doing their best possible in Nation’s resurgence. On this occasion, students from colleges and universities shared their thoughts on Bharathi’s contribution to freedom and modern India as well as experience of visit to Kashi Tamil Sangamam with the audience. On the occasion, Ravi honoured great Carnatic vocalist Rajkumar *Bharathi,grandson of Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi and his descendants. He also felicitated the student speakers who delivered talks.
