A tragic road accident near Srikalahasti claimed four lives early Monday when a speeding ambulance rammed into a stationary lorry on the Naidupeta Puthalapattu national highway. The impact was severe, leaving the front portion of the ambulance completely crushed.
According to preliminary police findings, the ambulance was transporting a patient from West Bengal to Bengaluru for advanced medical treatment. As the vehicle approached the outskirts of Srikalahasti, the driver reportedly failed to notice the parked lorry and crashed into it from behind at high speed.
Four individuals, all believed to be from West Bengal, died on the spot. Two others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Ruia Hospital in Tirupati for treatment. Doctors have indicated that one of the injured is in critical condition.
At the time of the accident, the ambulance was carrying not only the patient but also accompanying relatives, making the incident even more distressing. Local residents quickly alerted authorities, and police teams reached the scene to carry out rescue operations and shift the victims.
The bodies of the deceased were moved to the government area hospital in Srikalahasti for postmortem examination. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the exact cause of the crash. Initial suspicions point to either driver fatigue or overspeeding as possible reasons behind the fatal collision.
