Stalin announces Rs 1,000 Pongal gift for ration cardholders

Chennai, Dec 22 :The Tamil Nadu Government today announced Rs 1,000 and one kg rice and sugar as Pongal package to all the ration cardholders in the State. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin.As per the decision, with a view to celebrate the harvest festival, all rice cardholders and the families living in Sri Lankan Tamils Rehabilitation camps will be given a Pongal assistance of Rs 1,000, one kg rice and one kg sugar, an official release said.
About 2.19 crore cardholders in the State will be benefitted by this package and the government will incur an expenditure of Rs 2,356.67 crore.
While the Chief Minister will launch the pongal package distribution scheme in Chennai on January 2, 2023, the Ministers will launch the scheme in their respective districts on the same day, the release said.
