Veteran Tamil Producer K Rajan Dies by Suicide in Chennai
Senior Tamil film producer and director K Rajan passed away after reportedly jumping into the Adyar River in Chennai, leaving the South Indian film industry deeply shocked and saddened.

The Tamil film industry was left in deep shock after senior producer, director, and film analyst K Rajan reportedly died by suicide in Chennai on Sunday evening. The 85 year old filmmaker was known for his outspoken views on cinema and his long standing contribution to Kollywood.
According to preliminary police information, Rajan traveled to the Adyar area in Chennai along with his driver. Near the Thiru Vi Ka bridge, he reportedly asked the driver to stop the vehicle and said he would return after a short walk. Moments later, he allegedly jumped into the Adyar River from the bridge.
Local residents immediately alerted the police after noticing the incident. Teams from the Adyar police station along with fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the river. Officials later recovered his body and shifted it to the Royapettah Government Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police stated that the exact reason behind the incident is still unknown and an investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
K Rajan remained an active and influential figure in the Tamil film industry since the 1980s. He began his career as a producer under the Ganesh Cine Arts banner with the 1983 film Brahmacharigal starring Suresh. Over the years, he produced several films including Doubles and Aval Paavam.
Apart from producing films, Rajan also directed movies such as Namma Ooru Mariamma featuring Nizhalgal Ravi and Sarathkumar, along with Udharcigal released in 2005. He even appeared as a supporting actor in films including Thunivu starring Ajith Kumar and Bakasuran directed by Selvaraghavan.
His son Prabhu Kannan has also established himself in the Tamil film industry as an actor and filmmaker.
Rajan was widely respected for speaking openly at audio launches and film events about issues affecting the cinema industry, including rising actor remunerations and production challenges. Following news of his death, several film personalities and producer associations expressed grief and paid tribute to his contribution to Tamil cinema.
