Mortal remains of Cong MLA consigned to flames in Erode

Chennai, Jan 5 (UNI) The mortal remains of Congress Legislator E.Thirumahan Everaa, who died yesterday due to a cardiac arrest, was consigned to flames at Erode today. Thirumahan, who was elected to the Tamil Nadu Assembly for the first time from his native Erode (East) constituency, was the son of Senior Congress leader and former Union Textiles Minister EVKS Elangovan and the great grandson of Rationalist leader Periyar E.V.Ramasamy. He was cremated at the modern crematorium in Karungalpalayam, in Erode today afternoon. A large number of people, including tradeand industrial association, and party workers cutting across political lines and locals, took part in the funeral procession. Assembly Speaker M. Appavu, Minister for Housing and Urban Development S. Muthusamy, Minister for Information and Publicity M.P. Swaminathan, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President K.S. Alagiri, Congress MPs Karti P. Chidambaram, A.Ganeshamurthi and S.Jothimani, Tamil Manila Congress President and MP G.K. Vasan, AICC in-charge of Tamil Nadu Dinesh Gundu Rao, former TNCC president K.V. hangkabalu and leaders and functionaries of various political parties paid homage to the mortal remains of the MLA at his residence. As a tribute to the late MLA, more than 250 textile shops at Panneerselvam Park and in many parts of the city that came under his constituency were downed their shutters.
