Give Books, Give Wings! It is time to fly!

Reading is not embraced by everyone passionately, sad but true. Cultivating a reading habit is a daily practice, The more we read, the better we understand the world we live in, with all of its flaws and advantages, and more importantly, the more avid we become to learn more. There is a clear link between success in life or career and reading. It’s never too late to learn new things, improve ourselves, and enjoy the things that make reading such an important and beneficial activity. Today a reader, tomorrow a leader. In everyday life, to read extensively means to read widely and in quantity. Spending time reading daily sounds scary, but if you aim for a certain number of minutes to read per day, you will make constant progress. Just like working out or dieting, everything goes well as long as you maintain good momentum. Reading is good for our brains and may even help us live longer. It is a prominent point that reading, in the long run, gives the wisdom of varied subjects, demographics, cultures, geographies and so on. It helps in comprehending the language. It nurtures our vocabulary and amplifies our syntax and semantics. It coats our communication skills. It hones our sense of ingenuity and imagination. A proper speed reading technique should help you, not only to accelerate the pace of your reading but to maintain focus and information intake as well.
Both reading and writing go hand in hand. There is a lot of work that goes into becoming a writer and acquiring the necessary skills and a great part of that involves reading. Books are packed with knowledge, they give you life lessons, and they teach you about hardships, love, fear, and every little thing that is a part of life. The importance of books in our life cannot be undermined for they not only help in broadening our horizons but also act as doorways to connecting us with the world around us. There is a saying that when you open a book, you open a new world. I think it is quite right because from the books we come to know about new stories, new places, and new ideas. Moreover, books are immortal and with the only help of books, we come to know about our traditions, cultures, history, and backgrounds. In simple terms what this means is that the more you read the more exposed you are, and your attitudes, your ideas, and your imagination changes.
Public libraries and literature festivals promote reading. If you are a bookworm and looking for a quiet and peaceful spot to read some of your favorite books, there are several iconic and majestic libraries in the country with their wide collection of books. A book is a key to success, and so is the library. The mobile library is a popular concept wherein a bus-cum-library roams around town and makes multiple stops for readers to hop in and choose books. These vehicular libraries are replete with thousands of books from different genres, authors, and publishers. Electronic commerce has intruded into the traditional book markets with its intensifying new electronic devices and online formats of book reading. Nowadays, e-books, soft copies of books that we can read on our electronic gadgets like PC, tablets, laptops, mobiles, etc., are also trending in the market. Goodreads is a perfect platform for anyone who is into reading books or even writing books for that matter. It is a reader as well as a writer-friendly platform. Books, however, play a crucial role in human life and are the friends of humankind since ancient civilizations. Books have become obsolete for some people with access to the Internet, but they are often still the core fundamental of knowledge for many others.
Hyderabad treats bibliophiles with a unique book fair. The first Hyderabad Book Fair was held in the year 1985 at City Central Library in Ashok Nagar. Subsequently, the Book Fairs were held at Nizam College Grounds, Public Gardens, Exhibition Grounds, and Keshav Memorial High School Ground and for the last four years it has been continuously running at Telangana Kala Bharati (NTR Grounds). In the past decades, though, one thing that gained attention for bibliophiles is literature festivals, popularly known as lit fests, held in different cities of the country. The Hyderabad Literary Festival (HLF), organized by The Hyderabad Literary Trust is an annual gathering of more than a hundred authors, artists, researchers, intellectuals, and publishers from India and abroad. The HLF includes talks, panel discussions, stage talks, the film shows, exhibitions, workshops, cultural evenings, and events for children and young audiences. The HLF supports the institutions in promoting the importance of reading through fun and interactive activities including photo sessions igniting a reading revolution.
No technology can diminish the importance of books. The androids can be misused but books can never be misused. Indeed, books are vital vehicles to access, transmit and promote education, science, culture, and information worldwide. World Book Day or International Day of the Book is observed every year on 23 April as decided by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote reading, publishing, and copyrighting. Let’s remember forever the popular saying of Fran Lebowitz “Think before you speak. Read before you think.”
