The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday appointed senior IAS officer Neerabh Kumar Prasad as the new Chief Secretary, replacing KS Jawahar Reddy. Reddy has been transferred without giving any posting and proceeded on leave.
Prasad, who was serving as the Special Chief Secretary, Environment, Forest, Science & Technology Department, was elevated as the top government official.
“Prasad, special Chief Secretary to the government is transferred and appointed as Chief Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh,” said an official release.
A 1987 batch officer, Prasad assumed office at the Secretariat on Friday.
However, both Neerabh Kumar Prasad and Jawahar Reddy are due for retirement on June 30.
Senior IAS officer Giridhar Aramane, a 1988-batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre who is currently serving as the Secretary, Ministry of Defence was an aspirant for the post at the time of appointment of Jawahar Reddy, who was picked by the then chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy ignoring other senior officers.
