Uttar Pradesh: In a disturbing incident from Uttar Pradesh a young man’s obsession with securing a medical college seat took an extreme and shocking turn. The case surfaced in Jaunpur where a medical aspirant deliberately injured himself in an attempt to qualify under the disability quota.

The individual identified as Suraj Bhaskar had long aspired to study medicine. After failing the NEET examination twice he reportedly became desperate to gain admission through any available category. Police say this desperation led him to take the drastic step of amputating part of his own foot.

Five days after the injury Bhaskar approached police on January 18 claiming that unknown assailants had attacked him and severed his foot. Based on his complaint police initially registered a case of attempted murder and began an investigation.

However medical examination raised suspicions as doctors observed that the injury appeared to be caused by a mechanical device rather than a sharp weapon used in an assault. During detailed questioning Bhaskar eventually confessed that he had inflicted the injury himself to create a disability certificate.

Police confirmed that the injury was carefully planned and carried out using a machine. He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Authorities said they are consulting legal experts to determine the appropriate charges in the case.

The incident has sparked serious debate around the pressure of competitive exams and the misuse of reservation policies. Police officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and further legal action will be taken based on expert opinion.
