The Prohibition and Excise Department on Friday released the 11th edition of the State Excise Act, marking an important update to one of the department’s most widely used legal references. The book was unveiled at the Commissioner’s office by Excise Commissioner C Harikiran and published by Asia Law Book House.

This revised edition comes five years after the previous version was printed in 2021. Officials said the new book includes all amendments, government orders, and rule changes issued up to January 2026, making it a comprehensive and current guide for officers and legal professionals working in the excise sector.

Several senior officials and representatives from the publishing house attended the release event, highlighting the importance of keeping excise laws updated in line with evolving regulations and enforcement needs. The department noted that the updated edition would strengthen legal clarity and improve field level implementation.

Alongside the book release, the Excise Executive Officers Association expressed deep sorrow over the death of constable Gajula Soumya, who lost her life while performing her duty in the line of action against offenders. The association described her sacrifice as an inspiration that brought pride to the department and courage to fellow employees.

The association also acknowledged the support provided by officials and medical staff who stood by Soumya from the day of the incident until her final moments. Gratitude was extended to the state leadership for responding swiftly to support her family, calling it a gesture that reflected the government’s commitment to its frontline personnel.

The day stood as a reminder that while laws and procedures evolve through books and amendments, the strength of the system ultimately rests on the dedication and sacrifice of those who serve on the ground.
