Municipal Elections Campaign Ends in Telangana Polling Countdown Begins
Municipal election campaigning ended across Telangana as polling countdown began with voting scheduled January eleven in municipalities and corporations involving lakhs of voters and candidates under tight security arrangements.

The high voltage campaign for Telangana municipal elections came to a close on Monday evening with loudspeakers falling silent across towns and cities marking the start of the final countdown to polling.
Voting will be held on January 11 from morning to evening across 116 municipalities and 7 corporations in the state. More than 52 lakh voters are expected to decide the fate of 12993 candidates contesting in 2996 wards.
Election officials said counting of votes will take place on January 13. Among the electorate women voters slightly outnumber men reflecting strong participation in urban local body polls.
To ensure free and fair elections the Telangana State Election Commission has put in place extensive arrangements. All 8203 polling stations across the state will be covered by webcasting for real time monitoring.
As the elections are being conducted using ballot papers officials have prepared and distributed over 16301 ballot boxes. After polling these will be shifted to strong rooms where round the clock security will be maintained.
Security has been tightened with deployment of nearly 25000 police personnel. Authorities have identified 1900 sensitive and 1400 highly sensitive polling stations where additional surveillance including CCTV monitoring has been arranged.
Liquor shops have been shut across the state to prevent disturbances and ensure smooth and peaceful polling.
