  • Over 52 lakh voters set to participate in civic polls
  • Tight security deployed to ensure peaceful elections

With municipal elections approaching, election authorities in Telangana ordered the closure of wine shops across all municipal towns and seven corporations to prevent undue influence on voters. The decision follows election norms aimed at maintaining transparency and public order.

Campaigning officially ended on the evening of February 9, triggering the enforcement of dry days. From that point, liquor outlets in notified municipal and corporation limits were shut as part of strict poll-time regulations. Officials confirmed that the ban will remain in place until polling concludes on February 11 and will be reimposed on February 13, the day of counting.

The civic polls are expected to see participation from nearly 52 lakh voters. To ensure voters can exercise their franchise without pressure or inducement, authorities extended the closure to bars, pubs, and all alcohol retail points in the affected areas.

Polling will take place in 116 municipalities and seven corporations, with results to be declared after counting on February 13. Elections are being conducted through ballot papers, prompting additional logistical and security arrangements.

Election officials said elaborate security measures are in place, with around 25 thousand police personnel deployed statewide. All polling stations are under continuous CCTV surveillance to ensure a smooth, peaceful, and fair voting process.
