Samsung One UI 8.5 Update Brings Bad News for Many Galaxy Users

Samsung prepares One UI 8.5 rollout but several older Galaxy phones and tablets will miss the update leaving users without new features privacy upgrades and system improvements in upcoming release

Samsung is getting ready to introduce its next major software upgrade One UI 8.5 but the update is not bringing good news for everyone. Reports suggest that several older Galaxy smartphones and tablets will not be eligible for the new version.

One UI 8.5 is built on Android 16 and is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series. The update is described as a major step forward with noticeable changes to the user interface along with deeper system level improvements rather than simple bug fixes.

According to reports from Gizmochina the update focuses on smarter lock screen features improved privacy controls refined quick settings customization and smoother overall performance. These additions are expected to enhance daily usage especially on newer Galaxy devices.

However Samsung appears to be ending software support for many older models. Devices from the Galaxy S lineup such as the Galaxy S21 series are not expected to receive One UI 8.5. In the foldable category Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 are also said to be excluded from the update plan.

Several budget and mid range phones are part of the unsupported list as well. This includes Galaxy A23 Galaxy A14 Galaxy A05 and Galaxy A05s. From the Galaxy M series models like Galaxy M14 and Galaxy M05 are reportedly reaching the end of their major update cycle.

Samsung is also expected to drop support for Galaxy F14 and Galaxy F05 under the Galaxy F lineup. On the tablet side Galaxy Tab Active 4 Pro may not receive the update. Rugged devices such as Galaxy XCover 6 Pro are also mentioned among the models missing out.

While this may come as a disappointment it does not mean these devices will stop working. Samsung is known to continue providing security patches for a limited time even after major updates end. Users are advised to keep their phones updated with the latest available security releases.

As Samsung moves forward with longer update commitments for newer models this shift highlights the company’s strategy of focusing advanced features on recent hardware. Users with unsupported devices may need to consider future upgrades to experience the full benefits of One UI 8.5.
