YouTube Services Disrupted Worldwide Recommendation Feed Stops Working
Technical issue in recommendation system left users across India US and UK without homepage videos Up Next suggestions or proper app loading before services were restored within hours

Millions of users across multiple countries found themselves staring at blank homepages when YouTube suddenly experienced a widespread outage this week. For several hours, the popular video platform failed to display recommended videos, and many users reported that the app was not loading as expected.
The disruption was first noticed early in the morning in India, with complaints rapidly surfacing on social media. Users said their homepage feeds were empty, suggested videos had disappeared, and error messages such as Something went wrong or Come back later were flashing on screens. The issue was not limited to one region, as reports also poured in from the United States, the United Kingdom and other parts of the world.
According to data shared by Downdetector, more than 300000 outage reports were recorded at the peak of the disruption. The highest spike in complaints was seen around 7 am in India, indicating the problem had spread quickly across time zones.
In an official update posted later, YouTube clarified that the glitch was linked to a malfunction in its recommendation system. This system is responsible for analyzing viewing history and user preferences to generate homepage suggestions and the Up Next queue. Due to the technical fault, videos were not appearing across various surfaces including the main website, mobile app, YouTube Music and YouTube Kids.
Importantly, the company confirmed that this was not a complete server shutdown. In some cases, users could still access videos directly through shared links, suggesting that the issue was isolated to content discovery features rather than full service failure.
Within a few hours, the platform announced that the problem had been resolved and normal functionality had resumed. Users were once again able to browse, receive recommendations and stream content without interruptions. For those still facing minor glitches, refreshing the webpage or restarting the app was suggested as a quick fix.
Such outages, while disruptive, are not entirely uncommon in the tech world. Other major platforms including X, Meta services and Google products have also experienced temporary breakdowns due to server updates or unexpected technical bugs. In this case, YouTube’s swift response helped minimize prolonged inconvenience for its global user base.
