The holy month of Ramadan has begun across the country following the sighting of the crescent moon on Wednesday evening in several regions. Religious leaders confirmed the start of the Islamic calendar ninth month marking a period of fasting prayer and charity for Muslims.
As Ramadan commenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm greetings to the Muslim community.
