Operation Crackdown Launched as Telangana Police Intensify Fight Against Cyber Crime

Telangana Police have launched Operation Crackdown to dismantle cyber crime networks by targeting mule bank accounts and financial channels with coordinated inspections across districts over the coming months.

  • Operation Crackdown targets cyber crime networks.
  • Mule bank accounts under statewide scrutiny.
  • Police aim to dismantle cyber fraud ecosystem.

To curb the rising number of cyber crimes in the state, the Telangana Police have rolled out a special statewide drive named Operation Crackdown. The initiative has been designed to attack the financial backbone of cyber criminals and disrupt their organised networks.

The operation has been conceptualised and coordinated by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau and will be implemented in multiple phases. District police units and commissionerates are working together to identify and dismantle the cyber crime ecosystem rather than focusing only on individual offenders.

In the first phase, authorities are concentrating on mule bank accounts, which are widely used to route illegal transactions. Data analysis revealed that during 2025 alone, nearly 4,775 mule accounts were active across the state. Of these, 1,888 suspicious accounts opened in 137 bank branches are now under verification.

Police investigations have found that these accounts are linked to more than 9,400 cyber crime cases registered across the country, including 782 cases originating from Telangana. Large scale inspections are underway, with 137 special teams comprising over 500 police personnel collecting and examining KYC details of suspected account holders.

Officials said the probe has already exposed alarming patterns. A single bank account in Sultan Bazar Hyderabad was found connected to 496 cyber crime cases nationwide, while several branches in Suryapet district showed hundreds of accounts linked to fraud. Cases are being registered wherever evidence points to criminal involvement.

Police believe Operation Crackdown will play a decisive role in weakening cyber crime networks by cutting off their money flow and holding both account holders and facilitators accountable.
