A shocking incident in Canada has left the Indian community in deep grief after Indian origin YouTuber Nancy Grewal was brutally killed in the city of Windsor in Ontario. The 45 year old content creator, known for sharing her views on social and political developments in Punjab, died after being attacked with a knife.
According to officials from the LaSalle Police Service, the incident took place around 9.30 pm local time on March 3 in the 2400 block of Todd Lane. Local residents reported that Grewal was stabbed multiple times before the attacker fled from the scene.
Emergency responders rushed Grewal to a nearby hospital after she was found severely injured. Despite efforts to save her, doctors later confirmed that she had died due to the seriousness of her injuries.
Nancy Grewal, who had roots in Punjab, was widely known on social media for discussing political issues and ongoing developments related to the region. Her sudden death has shocked many followers and members of the local Indian community.
In several of her online posts and videos, Grewal openly expressed her views on controversial issues including the Khalistan movement. She had strongly criticised Khalistan related protests and often spoke about the tensions affecting relations between India and Canada.
Grewal had also commented on prominent political figures and religious leaders connected to Punjab affairs. Among those she had spoken about were Amritpal Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia and Dera Beas head Gurinder Singh Dhillon.
Apart from political issues, she had also raised her voice on social media regarding the killing of Bathinda based social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. Her posts had drawn attention to violence and safety concerns involving online personalities.
Police authorities in Canada have launched an investigation into the murder. Officials are examining all possible angles behind the attack, including whether her outspoken views on sensitive issues may have played any role in the crime.
