The Telangana government has announced a special initiative to mark Women’s Day by introducing free health screening services for women across the state. The programme aims to improve health awareness and provide essential medical support to lakhs of women, particularly those from rural areas.

As part of the initiative, around 46 lakh DWACRA women in Telangana will receive 30 types of medical tests free of cost. The programme will begin on March 8, coinciding with International Women’s Day, and will be conducted in partnership with Telangana Diagnostic Centres.

Officials said the primary objective of the programme is to help women understand their health condition through early screening and to create a permanent digital health profile for each beneficiary. The government plans to complete the entire screening process within six months.

To ensure smooth implementation, the government has prepared a three phase plan. In the first phase, five priority mandals will be selected in each district to begin the screening process. The second phase will extend the programme to ten additional mandals, while the final phase will cover the remaining mandals across the state.

Health officials believe that this large scale initiative will help detect several health conditions at an early stage and provide timely medical advice and treatment for women.

Along with women’s health, the state government has also planned special health checkups for children. Between March 6 and March 26, health examinations will be conducted for students in government schools and Anganwadi centres across Telangana.

Special attention will be given to identifying anaemia among children and providing them with proper treatment and nutritional guidance. The programme aims to improve the overall health of students and prevent long term health complications.

Meanwhile, State Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha recently held a review meeting with senior officials and unveiled a 99 day action plan to strengthen healthcare services in the state until June 12.

Under this plan, screening tests will be conducted at sub centres to detect serious health conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. Authorities will also conduct viral infection tests for dialysis patients and strengthen chemotherapy services at day care cancer centres.

The government has also instructed health departments to spread awareness about heat related illnesses during the upcoming summer season. Hospitals will be equipped with ORS packets and emergency medicines to handle heat related health issues.

In addition, urban healthcare services will be strengthened from May 16. Urban Primary Health Centres will be upgraded into polyclinics and mobile medical camps will be organised in urban settlements to ensure healthcare access for people living in densely populated areas.
