The National Medical Commission has once again clarified its stance on medical education for students studying abroad. The commission stated that online classes alone will not be considered valid for foreign medical students seeking internship or registration in India.
According to new guidelines issued by the Undergraduate Medical Education Board of the NMC, students who attended online classes due to extraordinary circumstances such as the COVID pandemic or the Ukraine Russia conflict must complete their remaining education through physical attendance.
The commission emphasized that students who enrolled in foreign medical colleges either before or after November eighteen twenty twenty one must complete their academic requirements through regular offline classes at the respective universities. Certificates based only on online education will not be accepted for internship or medical registration in India.
Officials explained that students must compensate for the duration of online learning by extending their course period. During this extended time they must complete all required theoretical practical and clinical training directly at their medical colleges.
Universities abroad will need to issue compensation certificates confirming that students have completed the missed academic training. These documents must also carry authentication and official stamping from the Indian embassy in the respective country.
The NMC further instructed state medical councils to carefully verify all documents submitted by students. Immigration records including entry and exit stamps in passports along with visa details must also be examined before granting eligibility.
Authorities have been directed to allow provisional or permanent registration only after thorough verification of all academic and travel records. The commission believes these steps are necessary to maintain the quality and credibility of medical education for foreign medical graduates returning to India.
