Hyderabad: In a move aimed at strengthening grassroots welfare delivery, the Telangana government has decided to provide new smartphones to Anganwadi teachers across the state. The initiative is expected to significantly improve the digital management of Anganwadi centres and enhance service delivery.

Around 38000 Samsung smartphones have been procured for distribution in this phase. Officials said the devices will be handed over to Anganwadi workers within the next ten days, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy likely to formally launch the distribution.

The new smartphones come with improved specifications, including 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. These upgrades are expected to resolve the technical issues faced with older devices, which often struggled with slow performance and storage limitations.

Anganwadi teachers are required to use the Poshan Tracker application as part of their daily duties. The app is used to record and update nearly 14 categories of data related to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and young children. Delays in data entry were common earlier due to device limitations, but the new phones are expected to streamline this process.

Officials believe that real time data entry through upgraded smartphones will help the government monitor welfare schemes more effectively. It will also ensure that information from the field reaches authorities faster, enabling better decision making.

The Women and Child Welfare Department is currently making final arrangements for the rollout. With improved digital tools in hand, Anganwadi teachers are expected to carry out their responsibilities more efficiently, strengthening the overall public health support system in Telangana.
