Indian stock markets remained closed on Friday April 3 2026 on account of Good Friday marking the first trading holiday of April and the second market holiday in the same week. Trading activities across major exchanges were completely suspended for the day.
Both Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange observed the holiday with no transactions taking place in equity currency derivatives commodity derivatives and other key segments. This included trading in electronic gold receipts and repo markets as well.
The holiday followed an earlier closure earlier in the week for Mahavir Jayanti making it the second market break within a short span. With Saturday and Sunday being regular weekly holidays the closure extended into a three day break for traders and investors.
Commodity markets also remained shut throughout the day. The Multi Commodity Exchange suspended trading in both morning and evening sessions affecting transactions in gold silver crude oil and base metals.
Global markets too observed closures in several regions due to Good Friday. Major exchanges in parts of Asia Europe and the United States remained closed reflecting the global nature of the holiday.
Normal trading operations will resume on Monday April 6 when markets reopen after the extended weekend. Investors are expected to return to regular activity following the break.
Looking ahead April will have another trading holiday on April 14 on the occasion of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti. Apart from weekends this will be the only other non trading day in the month for Indian stock exchanges.
