Ayushman Card Now Easier to Get as Government Expands Access Through Ration Shops and Online Platforms

People can now apply for Ayushman cards easily through ration shops or online, ensuring faster access to free healthcare benefits worth up to five lakh rupees annually

Access to affordable healthcare has received a major push as the government has simplified the process of getting an Ayushman card under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. In a move aimed at reaching more citizens, especially in rural and underserved regions, authorities have now enabled ration shops to act as enrollment points, reducing the need to visit hospitals or dedicated centers.

The initiative is expected to make a significant difference for families who previously struggled with long travel distances or complicated procedures. With this change, people can walk into their nearest ration outlet and begin the registration process within minutes, making healthcare access more inclusive and practical.

To get the card through a ration shop, individuals only need to carry basic documents such as Aadhaar card, ration card, and a mobile number. The dealer enters the details into the system, and if eligibility criteria are met, the card is generated. In many cases, beneficiaries can even receive a printed or downloadable version immediately, making the process quick and user friendly.

For those who prefer digital methods, the online application process remains equally straightforward. Applicants can visit the official portal, log in using their mobile number, and verify their identity through OTP based authentication. After searching their name in the beneficiary database, eligible users can complete eKYC using Aadhaar verification. Once details are confirmed, the card is issued without the need for physical paperwork.

The benefits offered under the scheme continue to be a major attraction. Each eligible family can avail free treatment worth up to five lakh rupees per year across a wide network of empaneled hospitals, including both government and private facilities. This cashless system ensures that patients do not have to arrange funds at the time of medical emergencies, which often becomes a major burden for low income households.

Healthcare experts believe that expanding enrollment points to ration shops could significantly increase participation, particularly among people who are less familiar with digital platforms. It also strengthens last mile delivery of welfare schemes by using existing public distribution infrastructure.

With easier enrollment and wider awareness, the Ayushman card is steadily becoming a lifeline for millions. The latest changes signal a clear shift toward making essential healthcare services more accessible, reducing financial stress, and ensuring that no eligible citizen is left behind due to procedural barriers.
