The Telangana government has stepped up its fight against drug abuse by launching a network of 35 rehabilitation centres across the state, marking a major move toward its goal of becoming a drug free state.
The initiative focuses not only on enforcement but also on treatment and recovery. These centres, known as Addiction Treatment Facilities, have been set up in all districts to provide structured care for individuals struggling with substance abuse.
At Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad, a dedicated unit has been established with specialized care facilities including an intensive care like setup for severe cases. Patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms or complications due to addiction will receive continuous monitoring and medical support.
Authorities have also introduced advanced multi drug testing kits through the Telangana Anti Narcotics Bureau. These kits can detect up to 12 types of drugs including cannabis cocaine opioids and amphetamines within minutes using simple tests.
Officials stated that the programme combines medical treatment with legal procedures. Individuals identified through testing are provided options for rehabilitation, with proper documentation and consent forming part of the process.
After initial treatment, patients are referred to counselling centres where they undergo a six week rehabilitation programme. This includes expert counselling family therapy and group sessions aimed at helping individuals reintegrate into society.
The government has intensified enforcement alongside rehabilitation by deploying special teams and conducting regular raids to curb drug networks across the state.
Medical experts emphasize that addiction is a treatable condition and early intervention can save lives. With this comprehensive approach, the government hopes to help thousands of youth recover and lead normal lives.
Officials believe the drug free state mission will play a crucial role in addressing what is increasingly being seen as a social crisis, combining prevention treatment and awareness to build a healthier society.
